More growth is coming to The Rocket City. This time, it’s in the form of multiple grocery stores. More specifically, Food City in Huntsville will be setting up shop with a total of six locations!

Food City in Huntsville means more options for residents to find fresh produce, meats, seafood, flowers and more. The Virginia-based grocery retailer plans to open in Huntsville in two phases.

For starters, construction on phase one began last month. The first store is expected to open in the fall. Phase one includes two additional locations. The three stores planned for phase one include locations in Hampton Cove, North Memorial Parkway and U.S. 72 East.

Next on the agenda for Food City in Huntsville is phase two. Like the first phase, it will consist of three stores. The stores will be located in downtown Huntsville, on Alabama 53 and County Line Road.

What’s more, additional retail space for more businesses will be created with the construction of each shopping center. Eventually, the Food City stores in Huntsville will create more than 1,300 jobs throughout the next five years.

Established in 1955, the company has more than 140 stores in Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama. Typically, Food City stores feature their own prime meat and seafood departments, along with a pharmacy, a deli and bakery, a Starbucks and a floral department.
