News of the Facebook Data Center expansion in Huntsville is proof the Rocket City has been a good home to the existing center so far.
Facebook’s Huntsville Data Center
The announcement that Facebook, now Meta, was coming to town was first made in 2018. The first two buildings of the Huntsville data center were operational by September 2021, according to reports.
Initial plans did include further expansion. However, those plans have continued to grow.
Now the Facebook Data Center expansion in Huntsville will include a total of seven buildings. In the end, it’s expected to cover more than 3.5 million-square-feet in the North Huntsville Industrial Park.
Reports also shared news that the data center will provide more jobs as well as invest more in the community.
More than 300 jobs are expected once the Facebook Data Center expansion in Huntsville is complete. Plus, the company recently announced two grants totaling $300,000 in support of local schools.
More about the grants
Since Meta’s arrival in Huntsville in 2019, the company has continually given back and invested in local education.
The current grants will both benefit local schools and STEM education. For example, $75,000 will be donated to the Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering.
What’s more, Meta celebrated the original 2021 opening of the Huntsville Data Center by donating scholarship funds to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. Those scholarships for local students also totaled $300,000.
